Notes on the September 22, 2011 meeting of Presbytery.

Prince Edward Island Presbytery met on the evening of September 22, 2011, at Camp Abegweit.
Some highlights follow:

1.    The meeting was chaired by the new Chair of Presbytery, Everett Johnston.  Everett invited all pastoral charges to bring their quilt squares, that were made for this year’s Conference Annual Meeting, to the next Presbytery meeting for display.

2.   
The meeting opened with worship led by Jean Ward and Keith Gale.

3.   
The treasurer reported five pastoral charges have not paid their allocations in full.

4.    The Church in Action Committee reported on the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).  The Committee is asking each pastoral charge to contribute a little money to help subsidize survivors attending the TRC  Atlantic Event in Halifax on October  26 - 29, 2011.

5.   
Kathryn Anderson and Wilf Bean gave a presentation on Tatamagouche Centre.  They talked about the Centre’s programs, strategic plan, and vision to help build the Shalom Community.

6.   
The Pastoral Relations Committee reported Rachel Ellsworth will be providing student supply on the O’Leary-West Cape Pastoral Charge.  The Rev. Don MacPherson, of the Bedeque North Pastoral Charge, will be retiring June 30, 2012.  Presbytery approved the call of Rev. Boyd Drake to the Vernon Bridge Pastoral Charge, effective January 1, 2012.

7.    A vacancy was declared on the Alberton-Elmsdale Pastoral Charge.  Rev. Bob Lockhart will be providing retired ordained supply on this charge October 3, 2011 to June 30, 2012.

    Effective October 9, 2011, Rev. Gloria Churchill will be leaving the Bedeque Pastoral  Charge.  Rev. Hugh MacLean will be providing retired ordained supply on this charge October 9, 2011 to June 30, 2012.

9.    The Christian Life and Growth Committee reported on two youth events, Spark and Ignite, to be held in November at Camp Abegweit.

10.    Three remits, titled “Frequency and Timing of Conference Meetings”, “Appointment of Designated Lay Ministers”, and “Presbytery Membership of Designated Lay Ministers”, were discussed.  Motions of concurrence for all three remits were passed.

11.    The next meeting of Presbytery will be on Thursday, November 24, at Kensington United Church.  Rev. Jane Johnson, President of Maritime Conference, and David Hewitt, Executive Secretary of Maritime Conference, will be at the meeting.
