Notes on the June 12, 2008 meeting of Presbytery.

Prince Edward Island Presbytery met on the evening of June 12 at Hillcrest United Church, Montague.
Some highlights follow:

1.    The meeting opened with worship led by Rev. Scott Hillier.

2.   
The Presbytery Executive members for 2008-9 were introduced.  Outgoing delegates were thanked and incoming ones were welcomed.

3.   
The Rev. Greg Davis has been appointed to Trinity-Clifton Pastoral Charge for a year beginning July 1, 2008.

4.   
Gary MacDonald, who works at a teachers’ college in China, gave an interesting presentation to the court.

5.   
The Summerfield church building is to be sold and moved or disposed.

6.   
The court moved into a committee of the whole to discuss the issue of “progressive Christianity”.

7.   
The Treasurer reminded Pastoral Charges to submit their allocations.

8.   
Proposals concerning Presbytery committing itself to making the needs of the Island farming and fishing communities a priority were discussed.  A motion was passed for the Faith in Action, Christian Life and Growth, and Theology and Worship committees to work on this issue.

9.   
A committee was formed to review the structure of Presbytery and report back to the court in the fall.

10.   
The next meeting will be on September 25, 2008 in Bideford United Church.  There will be the nomination and election of the Chair-Elect at this meeting.
