1.
The
meeting opened with worship led by Cindy and Roland Easter.
2. The South Winsloe
church building was declared surplus. Consent will be sought from
Maritime Conference to have the building transferred to a heritage
foundation.
3.
There are 18
delegates for Youth Forum and 10 for Intermediates at Conference.
A motion was passed to give each delegate $50.00.
4.
The Rev.
Ches Boutilier was appointed weekend supply for Bedeque North Pastoral
Charge for the period February 17, 2009 to May 17, 2009.
5. The Stewardship
Committee introduced a guest speaker, George Doughart, the Maritime
Conference Stewardship Co-ordinator. George said the Mission and
Service Fund is the trademark or fingerprint of the United
Church. In 2008, P.E.I. Presbytery raised almost $382,000 for
M&S. He encouraged each pastoral charge to get just a few
more givers for M&S. He also promoted the successful program Celebrate Stewardship.
6. Carol Pippy presented
the annual report of the United Church Women. A DVD, Living in the Light, was shown as
part of her report. The DVD is a fund-raiser for United for Peace.
7. A vote was held to
elect commissioners to this year's General Council. Pauline
Walker was elected as the lay commissioner, with Gordon Makin as the
alternate. Kevin Dingwell was elected as the order of ministry
commissioner, with Sheila Mallory as the alternate.
8. The names of the
delegates to the Maritime Conference Annual Meeting were read.
9. A vote was
held for the Chair-elect of Presbytery. Rev. Dr. Arthur Davies
was elected.
10. The
Treasurer, Sheri Chislett, explained how the pastoral charge
allocations are determined. Presbytery's 2009 allocation to
Maritime Conference is $77,030.00.
11.
Catherine Gaw, Executive Secretary of Maritime Conference, was a
visitor in the court and gave a few remarks.
12. The
next meeting will on April 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Gordon Memorial Church,
Alberton.
