1.
The
meeting opened with a worship with the theme “Christ is alive!”.
In the absence of the Chair, former chairperson Don MacPherson chaired
the meeting.
2. A motion was passed
granting O’Leary United permission to seek a loan from the Church
Extension Board for two projects: a new organ and repaving the church
parking area.
3. A motion was passed
to grant Maritime Conference $700 for the production of the play
Tompkinsville at the Annual
Meeting of Conference and elsewhere.
4.
A motion
was passed to increase the travel rate for committee work and
Presbytery meetings to 30 cents per kilometre. Another motion was
passed to make the increase retroactive to January 1, 2011.
5. The Nominating
Committee reported that committee members are still needed.
However, all
committee chairs have been selected.
6. A motion was passed
that, effective with the rise of Conference, the Finance and Property
Committee will become the Finance, Property, and Mission Support
Committee.
7.
Nigel
Weaver, Christian Life and Growth Committee, announced the first county
conversation day was held in Montague for Kings County. Queens
and Prince county events are planned. The committee is continuing
to converse with Camp Abegweit. There are 19 applicants to Youth
Forum and five to Intermediates at Conference from P.E.I.
Presbytery. Also, there are two people going to Rendezvous 2011.
8. Bill Hayward, chair
of the committee, presented the final report of the Spring Park United
Transition Committee. The committee studied the life and mission
of the congregation, and what changes would be necessary. The
committee started its work in 2008 and is now drawing to a close as
Spring Park United prepares to call a minister and a congregational
designated minister.
9. Keith
Gale, chair of the Archives Committee, requested that when pastoral
charges are asked to bring their minutes to a meeting to be audited,
that they have their minutes there no later than 6:00 p.m.
10. Motions were
passed approving a change in pastoral relations for the following
(current pastoral charge, effective date): Laurie MacCuish (Vernon
Bridge, January 17, 2011), Sue Paterson (Alberton-Elmsdale, July 31,
2011), and Jack Spencer (Kensington, June 30, 2012).
11. Jim and Myrna
Wicks spoke about the United Nations declaration on the rights of
indigenous peoples. Canada has signed on to this declaration,
passed by the United Nations in 2007, in November 2010. The
Church in Action Committee wants to make sure Canada implements the
declaration.
12. The next
Presbytery meeting will be held in Park Royal United Church on June 9,
2011. The installation of the new Chair of Presbytery will take
place at this meeting.
