A decommissioning service will be held at New Glasgow United Church on
June 15, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.

Camp Abegweit Building Fund has now reached $965,000. There will
be a clean-up day at the camp on May 24, 2008, starting at 9:00
a.m. This year, repairs for the cabins will be done by the
clean-up crew as some cabins needed to be moved. Also, the old
lodge will need to be cleaned. The grand opening of the Camp will
be on June 22, 2008, at 3:00 p.m.

New delegates to Presbytery were introduced and welcomed.

The group “Blind Boys of Alabama” will be performing at Credit Union
Place on July 5, 2008. For every ticket sold by P.E.I. churches,
Credit Union Place will donate $5 to the Prince County Hospital for the
new mammography unit. E-mail Arthur Davies at

The names of the delegates accepted for Intermediates at Conference
were read. A motion was passed that Presbytery contribute $50
towards the registration costs for these delegates.

O’Leary United Church was given permission to seek funding from
provincial and federal government programs for major repairs to their
C.E. Centre. A motion was passed that Cape Traverse United Church
receive a Mission Support grant for modernization and improvement of
their church, including roof, siding, and flooring.
7.
Rev. Anthony Ware was appointed as supply for Spring Park United Church
for the term April 1 - June 30, 2008. A motion was passed that an
interim minister be found for two years to begin by July 31,
2008. Barb
Cairns re-appointment as Staff Associate for Park Royal was approved.
8. A motion
was passed for the amalgamation of Summerfield United Church with
Kensington United Church as of May 1, 2008. A decommissioning
service will be held on April 27, 2008, at 7 p.m.
9. Rev.
Andrew Richardson gave the annual report for the Church Extension
Board. Originally this fund was used to expand ministries; now it
is used more in consolidating pastoral charges. He said the Board
is
rethinking its work as a whole. What does it mean to extend God’s
Kingdom? In what ways might the Church Extension Board help that
task?
10. Eric MacDonald, an overseas worker from China
has been invited to speak at the June meeting of Presbytery.
Outgoing chair Rev. John Wilson thanked everyone for the opportunity to
serve on the Faith and Action committee. He also advised that he
is no longer the contact for the United Church Observer. This
position has been cut due to financial reasons.
11. A motion was
passed that the issue of “Progressive Christianity” be brought before
and be discussed by the full court. A committee will do some
research on this to bring to a future meeting.
12. The issue of Sunday
shopping was discussed and several churches reported on what was being
done to express their displeasure with the government’s decision to
allow this.
13. The six remits were
discussed and voted on. Only two were turned down.
14. The petition which
was recently circulated to encourage the large grocery stores to sell
local products netted 800 signatures. Cherry Valley 4-H Club is
designing t-shirts that carry the slogan “Buy a Cow.” It was
proposed that P.E.I. Presbytery make the needs of the farming community
a priority. A committee has been formed to look at this issue and
to make some proposals for action.
15. Next meeting will be
at Hillcrest United Church in Montague on June 12, 2008, at 7:00
p.m. Committees will meet at 6:00 p.m.
